Occam

Occam opened her eyes slowly, the flutter of her lashes brushed the back of her hand, which lay across her face lightly to block out any light. A silly habit she had kept from her human life. Her face showed a relaxed and easy smile, her dreams had been good ones after all. Stretching her arms upwards, she felt a slight tightness in her back muscles, as the momentum of the action , pulled her body upwards into a seated position. Gazing around she saw the stars peaking through the curtain of branches that separated her from the forest outside. A forest that she was once unwelcome at, the home of the Ents, Willow Wood. She now considered it more of a home than any other place in the city and often spent her hours at rest there. The night was quiet and still, only a lone owl hooted, the stream could barely be heard far in the distance. Suddenly the silence was broken by the buzz of her cell, picking it up she saw that it was Lena, her clan mate.
“Hmmm, that's not a usual caller at this time of the night”, she mumbled as she pressed the green button just as the call disconnected. Within a few minutes she heard the familiar beep beep , alerting her that she had a text message. A few buttons pressed …...
”What the hell” her voice raising as she read the message. "Occam can you please check your records for anything about a vampire by the name of XXXshadowXXX, please? I was attacked by him last night. Lena." Occam felt the hair on the back of her neck raise up as she read the words, it took her only a few seconds before she knew what had happened. She felt a fit of anger rising up within her, its intent was to rip the head off of the one that she knew was responsible for this mess, that just seemed to be getting more and more ...messy. With the anger giving her the boost of get up and go that she needed to leave the comfort of Cassia Ent's lofty haven, quickly dressed and pulled a scroll from her pocket, slapping it hard against the palm of her other hand as she barked out the location she wanted to go to, "Zelkova and 55th."
Her body took form in a shimmer of light smoke inside the dark room of the large vacant Victorian Manor that she knew to be where Shadow often lay in wait for those that sated his hunger. As her eyes adjusted themselves to the thick inky darkness, she felt him near and turned to see the creature in the corner, his form barely visible in the shadows that hung about him. Moving closer she could feel the probe of his mind as it danced around hers, playing hide and seek with her in its own unique fashion. Her anger did not allow for his games and she lashed out at him,
“Why have you attacked my clan mate ? The vampire Lenadriel is no concern of yours. I have come here to request that you cease such attacks immediately as a favor to me.” her words clear and concise.
The demon lunged at her from the shadows, its long tail wrapping around her body, immobilizing her, it's breath cold upon the bare flesh of her neck. “Do not interfere, leech! We enjoy killing and we have been paid even” It's voice hisses inside of her head. “We follow nobody's command but our Mistresses, she can stop us, but perhaps we shall consume you, little parasite, before you can warn her.” as the words faded, Occam felt his talons dig into her flesh sharply, a ripping could be heard as it pulled down sharply shredding the skin on her back into narrow ribbons.
Occam grimaced at the pain, but no more than that, she would not give him the satisfaction of seeing that he had caused her the discomfort. With a slow sigh, she opened her eyes to stare at his eyeless face, the black skin with its rows of sharp teeth that snapped at her with a resounding “clack”.
“I see. If that is the case then I will speak with my sister on the matter. Now release me, Shadow. There will be another time when you will be able to feast upon me. A time that will allow for you to frolic in my innards even.” A smirk curled upon her lips as she looked at his shark-like toothy grin. “ that will be much more enjoyable than this night, I am certain.” As she spoke, his grasp on her loosened and he unwound himself from her rigid body to sit back on his haunches a few feet from where she stood. “Thank you” with that she cracked another scroll and with a “poof” was gone, appearing at the home of her sister, Liski.
“Liski, I have come to request that you tell your demon to cease his attacks on Lena” the words flow out of her mouth quickly.
“Lena?”
“Yes, Lenadriel Shadowlight. She is a member of PoE, and has been the focus of Alchemy's attentions of late. It seems, he has contracted your demon to kill her. I feel somewhat responsible, I believe he only was able to do so, because of me. He broke into my office awhile back and stole some pages out of my address book. I didn't realize at the time that Shadow was one of the pages that Alchemy had taken. There is no other explanation for his even knowing of Shadows existence.” Occam looks at her sister with a concerned glint in her eyes.
“I should have been more careful,I apologize for having to ask this of you, Liski”
Liski shook her head, a solemn look covers her face as she considers Occam's words, “hmmm” then “but he was paid, wasn't he?”
“Shadow mentioned something about being paid, yes. If it is about coin, I will gladly pay him what he has been paid, you know that Liski” She knew that the payment was the least important aspect of whatever arrangement that had been made between the two, but offered anyways. or perhaps I could provide it with another option her voice drifting off as the idea formed within the back of her brain.
“hrm.. well if you believe it must be done.. it tends to have a problem with not being allowed to kill” She said, her cobalt blue eyes flashed silver as she turned to look at Occam. “I'll speak with it on this matter.”
Occam stood as Liski called out to Shadow, her voice no more than a whisper of darkness in the night.
“It is done.” The woman turned back to face Occam, the silver gleam now gone from her piercing gaze.
“Thank you, sis. I gotta go tell Lena that there won't be anymore attacks from Shadow. " with that Occam once again snapped the seal from a scroll and all that remained was a small pile of ash.

It watched from the darkness as she disappeared in a flash of smoke. It didn't have long, it wouldn't be denied its pleasure. Leaping to a wall it skittered up the side of a building, its senses cast out into the night, tracking its prey. It locked onto the unique signature of her energy and sped off across the rooftops after her. Standing at the edge of a building it watched her moving below, its claws growing excessively larger it roared into the night and leaped down at her. Its target grew larger as it descended upon her. That was when it's Mistress's voice echoed through its head ~ "You are to cease attacks on Lenadriel immediately, my pet"~ It growled, it was too late - Occam had beat it to the goal. It turned its body lithely in the air switching direction just slightly, landing with a forceful "thump" next to her. Arching its body upwards, it rubbed the length of its form against Lenadriel's leg, its tail curling around her thigh and slipping lose, as it fled off into the dark~ "As you request Mistress", it sent back. Then her presence was gone from its mind.
It walked the streets, its hunger a writhing pain radiating through its being, it was not amused at being denied its meal. Occam would suffer for her transgression. She would have to pay with her own blood or the blood of another, to replace that which she denied it. But for now, the hunger grated within it, demanding to be sated. It sat down, brooded scanning the menu provided, there weren't many business' still open this late, but it noticed a run down pub not far off, it shrugged and started forward. It didn't bother with the door, phasing through it instead. A man in a bright jacket stood on the other side of the door a strange look on its face as the creature suddenly appeared. It had no time to enjoy the meal, its hunger demanded appeasement immediately. It threw its back end up, talons eviscerating the man as they passed, sensing the death thin tendrils shot from its body wrapping about the man, rending him apart and carrying the meat back to it. Digging it's claws into the floor it used its arms to propel itself forward before its feet had landing it spun through a doorway into a couple preparing to leave, its claws rended into the mans guts tearing and ripping the skin to each side as it forced its head into the massive wound, teeth gnashing and tearing at the soft gore as the man's ribcage expanded, shattering under the pressure of the creature trying to crawl into the much to small space. It forced a hand through the back latching onto the woman's head and yanking her back through her mate, it lunged forward roaring into her face, finishing it by clamping on to her head yanking its head to the side to tear it free. It chewed slowly on it, letting the other two corpses drop to its feet, more tendrils snaking out to complete the meal. It shuddered, the empty void of hunger being temporarily filled.
It's hunger eased, it's tail snapped out, wrapping tightly around the throat of the lone remaining monkey standing behind the bar. It gazed at her as she fought and wriggled in its grasp the tail dragging her across the bar and to it. "Perhaps Occam was hungry" it thought, "if it brought her a meal" it reasoned "she would probably taste better when it killed and consumed her". The woman screeched in terror, as it dragged her along behind it. As it left the bar the continued screams caused the monkeys around to quickly rush to her aid. But it was forgotten as the magic that protected their weak, human minds from the knowledge of the monsters that moved about in their midst, took hold. The humans turning to go about their business with slack jawed indifference, as if there wasn't a woman being dragged past them, en route to her death. With no direction, it held her tightly in the grasp of its tail as it continued down the street - it knew its feet were carrying it towards Occam. Feeling a sudden stab of pain, it stopped in its track. Tearing its tail loose as it turned on the woman. With a roar, it slammed a paw down on her chest, pinning her to the ground, it watched her, it's blood was sprinkled around her mouth, from were she had bit it. Words of faith and prayer spilled from her mouth. Tapping a claw against her forehead, small flaps of skin opened over its body to release it's voice. "Stop that ..In our experience it has never helped anyone." Hearing the wicked voice, she resumed her shrieking. It grew tired of the game and its maw closed over her head, the sickening sound of bones being broken echoing through the night as her skull was crushed. With her head still in its mouth, it continued along the dark streets, letting instinct guide it to its goal .
Digging its claws into the tree it climbed, entering her room through a break in the solid bark near the top, It stood perched on the ledge of the opening watching her. Her head drooped occasionally, her eyes fluttering closed just to snap back open and continue at her work with renewed vigor each time, before trailing off until she was falling asleep again. It watched for a long while, surprised she had not been alerted to its presence yet or to the smell of fresh blood wafting through her room. Leaping down from the ledge it stalks across the room to her dropping the corpse at her feet . It sits back on its haunches tail wrapping up the length of its body considering her, its mistresses orders being the only thing keeping it from tearing her stomach open and feasting on her guts. "You look hungry Occam, you should eat", it lowers its head to the corpse nuzzling it. closer to her .
Occam watched as the last rays of the sun stretched their long fingertips around the the trees and colorful blooming flowers that required the magic that Sol gave so freely to the things that needed it to survive. Thinking back Occam could recall that there had been a time in her life when she had been one of those things, when she had walked in the sunshine without care, the feel of the stars touch upon her skin, comforting her as it cloaked her in warmth. Shaking her head, the woman gave a sigh, turning her head away from the view she moved to her desk.
As she pulled out her laptop, opening the lid and double clicking on the icon that would connect her to her database that she kept online, her mind carried her back to the night a little more than a year ago, the night she had first met Shadow. Liski had told her about “her demon”, a creature that she had somehow bound to her through a ritual that the woman had performed years before. The rest was rather cryptic, even with Occam's questions about how and why, she had walked away that night not understanding what Shadow was or where he came from anymore than she had before the conversation. Occam remembered the nights when she had sat in the den of Wolfe Manor, the old Wolfe Manor that was owned by LadyPeacek and her sire, Kaio. The war had been raging at the time, Occam had been exhausted every morning, dragging her battle torn body home to collapse into one of the large overstuffed chairs before taking to her bed to rest alongside her mate Alchemy Monday. As Occam's thoughts took her back there, she felt her eyes closing, her lashes fluttering softly the memories giving her reason to seek out the dreams that would pull her in and place her there in the den where she sat and first came to know Shadow. He came to visit with her often during that time, his smooth black body resting it's head in her lap as she told him of her nights fighting and of other things that he seemed curious about; her human childe, Charity, her fears that were wrapped around her failure to be there when her sire had falled her own impending fall, among other things. She came to look forward to his presence, then he was gone.
“Thump” the sound jerked her awake, suddenly returning her to the present in a bombardment of sensory overload. Eyes wide, a low growl rumbling from her chest she spun around, ready to spring on the intruder that dare to slip into her home without notice. Occam watched as Shadow crawled through the window, dragging the corpse of a woman towards her and then dropped it at her feet. Blood seeped from every part of her body, the thick dark red fluid staining the floor of foliage, the smell of the fresh kill met her nose, the sweet vitae scent filled the air around her. She smiled at Shadow, allowing him to move his face along her body for a moment before he moved away slightly “oh what have we here, Shadow? A gift?” Shadow growled slightly and leaned his head down nuzzling it closer to her "We thought you might be hungry so we brought you a snack .."
Occam looked at the sprawled form on the floor, the expression on the face of the woman spoke of the terror that had passed before her eyes as she had breathed her final breath.. A toothy smile unfolded on her face as Occam reached down to pull the human upwards, taking it into her arms roughly before sinking her silver tips deep into the jugular. A warm thick liquid burst into her mouth as she drank hungerly of the vitae, then as the blood flow started to slow she released her bite, turning to look at Shadow “Will you finish it, please?, I have had my fill. Thank you, I was starved.”
The woman watched as the creature devoured the human, leaving nothing to waste. This did not surprise her, yet she couldn't help but be enthralled by his thoroughness in the matter. As he fed, it became clear to her that they had reached a new level in their “friendship”, Shadow iL Caduto was becoming an important part of her existence. What that meant and where it was headed, she had no idea, this was certainly something very unusual and unexpected. His voice spoke out to her, its whisper inside of her head caressed the thoughts she had been formulating. “Thank you for sharing your meal with us .”
A wide yawn, eased itself into Occam's expression, then another followed suit. With a soft laugh she ran her hand over her belly then brought it up to rub her drooping eyes, “sometimes i think my eyelids have a string attached to them , the other end anchored to my belly-button. The fuller my stomach is, the more my eyes seem to want to close.” Watching Shadow's reaction to her humor brought about another ring of laughter, his attempt at smiling always smile. He didn't quite see the correlation between food and sleep, his needs were much different than hers, sleep being a way to pass the time as he awaited the time when his purpose was at hand.
Occam felt his paw gingerly touch the skin on her abdomen, she prepared herself for the ripping and tearing of her skin, but to her surprise a flow of dark energy moved from him into her. It was, as if she had been infused with a drug, she could immediately feel her senses sharpen to a fine point. Sitting up straight she looked at Shadow, her eyes wide. “ Holy smokes, shadow! we could sell that ....whatever it is that you just gave me”.
“We have shared our strength with you , you should feel better soon”
Her body quivered, her hands shook slightly as she felt the strange power boost flow through her body like a wave preparing to crest high before crashing down hard on the flat sandy shore. There was no chance she would be napping anytime soon, she was certain of that. Rising from her seat, Occam hustled about, straightening the space she called home. Her bustling seemed to agitate Shadow, as he began pacing back and forth, a low rumbling coming from his chest as he inspected each shadow in the corners of her lofty home. Finally, he seemed satisfied and returned to sit next to where Occam stood, “Mistress nearly set us free to do our work. a mistake on her part , she allowed her words to be extremely loose and open to interpretation. But.... she fixed the problem , before we could get to you. We had wanted to bring you our greatest gift. The bliss and oneness that you will someday have; the one that comes with being devoured. “
